There was a lot of fun, laughter, and video calls.
To mark the first birthday of their son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, Meghan and Hary released the first-ever video of their little one, which created a huge stir online. People couldn't get enough of the birthday boy's adorable antics and soulful expressions as he listened to his mom read his favorite book.
While a birthday in quarantine does not sound very exciting, Archie's creative parents made sure he did not miss out on any of the birthday fun. But first, they decided to do some good for other kids who were struggling in the current health crisis. The video was created and posted online in order to raise funds for Save the Children through their campaign '#SaveWithStories." Celebs around the globe are reading stories for kids in an effort to raise awareness and spread some cheer.
Meghan, who has been an activist lending her voice for many causes much before she became a royal and Harry who takes after his mom's generous spirit decided to mark Archie's birthday by first making a difference to vulnerable groups, in this case, kids. Archie is sure going to know that being powerful and having a legacy comes with being responsible for people in need.
But that wasn't all. They also knew how important it is to celebrate and have fun to make the day memorable for their son.
PEOPLE reported that to commemorate Archie's first birthday, Meghan baked a smash cake herself at their new home in L.A., and Harry was in charge of the decorations. "Meghan made the cake—strawberries and cream," a source tells PEOPLE. "And Harry helped with decorations and blew up balloons."
They also got in touch with close ones via video calls to make the occasion more joyous. "They Zoomed with godparents, friends, and family and had a really simple but incredibly joyous day," says the source.
There were two more special celebrants for the day who apparently are Archie's "best friends." Guy the beagle and a black Lab the couple adopted in 2018. Archie "is best friends with his dogs," says the source. "They make him laugh and are gentle with him."
Archie's birthday video also sent his fans across the globe go on a frenzy as a debate on who Archie resembled the most took over: Meghan or Harry? While some thought he had the same deep brown eyes and smile as his mother's, most thought he was pretty much a baby lookalike of Harry as a child.
"OMG he is Prince Harry's double!" a comment read as per Express.
The next added, "Archie is Harry's mini-me."
"Oh my god! He is Harry's twin wow! What an adorable boy!! King Archie rules!" wrote the other.
Royal fans also gushed over his mischief when he dropped the book for a second time, which led Harry to break into a chuckle behind the camera. The one-year-old spoke a few adorable words as his two cute front teeth make an appearance now and then. People guessed whether he said "duck," or maybe "da-da."
Archie sure is going to look back at the pictures of that day where he had an intimate family time with his beloved parents and his favorite pets.
The celebration did not stop there though. Four days after Archie's birthday, Meghan celebrated her second Mother's day with her mom Doria Ragland who lives in L.A. along with Archie, PEOPLE reported.
As for Archie, he seems to be quite a charmer as every time his folks released a picture of him, they couldn't get over his cute baby cheeks and adorable smile. The last picture we saw of him was the one with Harry by a lake and before that was Sussexes' Christmas card. One that was so different from the formal ones the royals are used to sending.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are gradually building their own world outside the palace walls and the family seems content and happy away from the media. From buying a home in L.A., Meghan doing a voice over for a Disney Documentary, to allowing a biography to be written on their lives, Archie's parents are paving a new way never before trodden by other royals.
