28 Years of Marriage & Steven Spielberg Still Gushes over Wife Kate Capshaw: “My Leading Lady Is Still My Leading Lady”

They have been together for nearly three decades and their love and affection for each other has not decreased one bit.

Retired actress Kate Capshaw, 65, met Steven Spielberg, 72, while shooting for a film he directed. Steven Spielberg, 72, is a powerhouse thanks to his creative prowess. A billionaire and a visionary, he has given many blockbuster hits in his lifetime. A truly successful man behind whom stands a strong woman, Kate. Married for 27 years, the couple has seven children in the Spielberg-Capshaw brood.

It was a reel to real story for them as they met on the set of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom in 1984. She had already been married with a child and was divorced before entering the entertainment industry. She was cast from among more than 100 actresses for the female lead Willie Scott in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984). She had been working in the soap opera The Edge of Night until then, which she gave up to be part of this film. It changed the rest of their lives.

Sparks flew on the set and even though Spielberg was married to Amy Irving then, soon, Kate was to be the love of his life. He once told IndieWire famously, "The prettiest thing that came out of that film [Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom] was my future wife. I met Kate, my leading lady. My leading lady is still my leading lady.”

Apart from her daughter from her first marriage and his son from his previous marriage, they have five more children, one of whom was initially adopted by Capshaw and then Spielberg too.

He never stops letting the world know that he is truly proud of being married to her. In 2018, when a presenter at Oscars asked him what he does, he said, “I’m Kate Capshaw’s husband" pointing to his wife despite having many accolades to his name. People loved his answers calling it #relationshipgoals, according to The Cut. While there were some naysayers, who claimed that it was patronizing of him to say this. The couples' daughter, Sasha, hushed them up by saying that Kate really was the boss.

He may be one of the most successful men in Hollywood, but in the relationship, this strong woman pulls the strings and he has no qualms expressing that. He is always profuse with his love for her. He's even signed a picture of himself inside her sorority house at the University of Missouri saying, "Everyone knows the best women come from Missouri, Steven Spielberg."

Even though it has been almost three decades since they have been together, they don't stop showing affection to each other. He doesn't shy away from showering her with attention and doing special date nights every now and then. In May 2019, they were seen at Henry at Life Hotel ordering a special menu item called “It Was All a Dream", which is a $390 meal including everything on Chef Joseph “JJ” Johnson’s menu, according to Pagesix.com

The couple doesn't shy away from public display of affection either. In 2014, they were spotted strolling on the streets of New York City and stopped in the middle of the street to give each other a hug, according to Daily Mail

Even as parents, they have done a great job together. Many Hollywood kids have gone astray over the years but their kids are successful in their right thanks to their parenting skills. "I begged my parents to let me audition for Teen Idol – I think I was 13 – and my parents said no, and it was heartbreaking. I was constantly trying to get myself into little acts like that, but my parents were so strict. I think they wanted to protect us, and they kept us all out of any spotlight except their own. That was where we grew to love performing – just in front of our family," Sasha told Rolling Stones. She's become a successful musician now.

They have, however, been private about the intricacies of their marriage. To keep away attention from their children, they have also kept away attention from their personal lives. And, yet, it is his wife he looks towards whenever he does well professionally, which happens often.

In 2013, her message to him when his film Lincoln received 12 Academy Award nominations "melted his heart". "She just said, 'I'm proud of you,' " says Spielberg to USA Today. "And she said that in a way that melted my heart."
